Introduction: Why Perth Families and Businesses Trust Tommy Sugo for Finger Food Halal
We’re the Tommy Sugo team, and for the last fifteen years we’ve been cooking. What started as a small fresh-pasta shop has grown into one of Western Australia’s most recognised halal-friendly caterers. The reason is simple: we refuse to take shortcuts with halal food.
When Muslim customers first walked through our door asking for something they could eat without worry, we realised most places were offering the same tired spring rolls and samosas. We decided to do something different – give Perth proper restaurant-quality Italian food that happens to be 100 % halal. That decision changed everything.
Key Takeaways
- Everything on our halal menu is certified and prepared in its own section of the kitchen

- Fresh Western Australian ingredients, no imported frozen stuff
- More than 40 different finger food halal lines, from arancini to dessert cannoli
- Trusted by Perth mosques, Islamic schools, mining companies and thousands of local families
The Journey to Proper Halal Certification
Certification Is Only Half the Story
Plenty of places wave a certificate around. We go further. Our halal area is physically walled off from the rest of the production floor. Different colour cutting boards, separate ovens, dedicated fryers, and staff change aprons and gloves before they walk in.
Working with Western Australian Halal Suppliers
Our beef and lamb come from a third-generation abattoir down in Kojonup. The chicken is from a family farm in the Swan Valley that supplies half the mosques in Perth. We know the owners by their first names, and we see the certificates every single delivery.
The Finger Food Halal Range Perth Actually Wants
Beef Ragu Arancini – Still Our Biggest Seller
We cook arborio rice low and slow with a halal beef ragu that’s been on the stove for eight hours. A spoon of bechamel goes in the middle, then we hand-roll, breadcrumb and fry. You’ll get 20 or 40 to a tray, and they disappear fast.
Eight-Layer Beef Lasagne Bites
We make our full-size eight-layer lasagne exactly the same way as always, then chill it overnight and cut it into perfect little squares. Same pasta, same halal ragu, same cheese crust – just bite-sized.
Halal Chicken and Mushroom Vol-au-Vents
Flaky halal puff pastry cases filled with chicken breast we dice by hand, Manjimup mushrooms and a cream sauce made with Harvey Fresh milk. These look fancy but they’re sturdy enough to hold in one hand while you’re holding a drink in the other.
Spinach & Ricotta Cannoli Bites
Completely meat-free and naturally halal. We pipe the filling into crisp pastry tubes and dust with Western Australian parmesan. Children fight over these at every party.
Lamb Kofta Sliders
Mini brioche buns (from a halal bakery in Balcatta) filled with spiced halal lamb kofta, tomato relish and a touch of garlic sauce. Probably the most requested item for teenage parties.
Pumpkin & Feta Arancini
Roasted Kent pumpkin from the Perth Hills mixed with Harvey feta and a little sage. Another vegetarian/halal winner that non-vegetarians always go back for.

When Finger Food Halal Makes All the Difference
Ramadan and Eid – The Busiest Time of Our Year
From the first day of Ramadan we’re flat out. Families order trays of finger food halal to break fast with – it’s quick, it’s hot, and everyone can dig in straight away. Last Eid we delivered to more than 50 homes in one weekend.
Corporate Morning Teas and Lunches
Big mining companies, banks and government departments book us months ahead. They love that one phone call covers the whole team – no separate orders, no awkward questions, just great Finger Food Halal.
Islamic School Fundraisers
We have a standing arrangement with eight Perth Islamic schools. They sell our frozen finger food halal products at fetes and markets, keep a healthy margin, and parents know exactly what they’re buying.
Weddings and Engagements
More and more couples are asking for grazing tables before the main meal. Our finger food halal sits alongside the regular items and nobody can tell the difference – except the Muslim guests who finally get to eat everything on the table.
A Normal Day in the Tommy Sugo Kitchen
We start at 4 am. By 5 am the first halal ragu is on the stove. The pasta machine is rolling sheets for lasagne by 6 am. Arancini get hand-rolled between 7 and 9 am – that’s when you’ll see twenty staff around the benches like an assembly line. Everything is portioned, blast-chilled, packed into compostable trays and loaded onto vans by midday. The drivers head out at 12:30 pm sharp.
If you order before 10 am, your Finger Food Halal was made that same morning. That’s not marketing – that’s just how we run the place.
Delivery That Actually Works in Perth
We know Perth traffic. We know 38-degree days. We know some suburbs have roads that look like goat tracks. Our vans have commercial refrigeration units in the back, and the drivers have been with us for years. From Two Rocks to Secret Harbour, if it’s inside the metro area, we’ll get there the same day.
Ingredients We Will Never Change
- Roma tomatoes – picked, cooked and jarred within 48 hours
- Harvey Cheese parmesan grated fresh every day
- Extra-virgin olive oil from the Swan Valley
- Western Australian rock salt and nothing else
If we can’t get it locally and halal, we don’t use it.
What Our Customers Tell Us about our Finger Food Halal(Their Words, Not Ours)
Aisha – Canning Vale “Ordered 250 pieces for my daughter’s walima. My mother-in-law is fussy about halal and she ate six arancini and asked for the shop name. That’s the highest praise in our family.”
Ahmed – Subiaco “I’m a project manager on the mines. Every roster break we have a barbecue. Tommy Sugo halal trays mean I finally get to eat the same food as the boys for once.”
Sister Khadija – Langford Islamic College “Last term we made nearly $8,000 profit selling Tommy Sugo products at the school canteen. Parents keep asking when the next order is coming.”

FAQs
Is every item on the halal menu actually prepared separately from the regular menu?
Yes, and we take it very seriously. The halal production area is a completely walled-off section at the back of our kitchen with its own entrance, ovens, deep fryers, benches and refrigeration. Staff must change into a different coloured uniform and gloves before entering, and nothing – not even a wooden spoon – ever crosses between the two zones.
Can non-Muslims order from the halal menu, and does it taste the same as your regular food?
Absolutely they can – in fact, many of our biggest corporate clients do exactly that because they want one simple order that covers everyone. The recipes are identical in flavour to our main menu; the only difference is the source of the meat and the complete separation during preparation. Most people cannot tell the difference unless we point it out.
How far south and north do you deliver same-day in the Perth metro area?
Our same-day zone runs from Yanchep and Two Rocks in the north all the way down to Mandurah, Rockingham, Byford and Secret Harbour in the south – basically anywhere inside the metropolitan boundary. As long as the order is placed before 10 am, seven days a week, we guarantee it will arrive that day, even on public holidays.
How well do your finger food halal items freeze and reheat?
They freeze brilliantly. We recommend laying the items (arancini, lasagne bites, vol-au-vents, etc.) flat on a tray in the freezer first so they don’t stick together, then transferring to zip-lock bags once solid. To reheat, place them straight from frozen onto a lined tray at 190 °C for 18-22 minutes (depending on your oven). They come out exactly as if they were fresh.
Are there nut-free options within the finger food halal range?
Yes, the vast majority are completely nut-free. The only item that contains nuts is our pesto arancini (which we clearly mark). Everything else – beef lasagne bites, chicken vol-au-vents, lamb kofta sliders, pumpkin arancini, spinach cannoli – is made in a section of the kitchen that never sees nuts. Full allergen information is on every label and on the website.
Are you open for pickup on weekends and public holidays for the Finger Food Halal?
The kitchen is open for pickup every single day of the year from 8 am until 2 pm, including Christmas Day and Easter Sunday (we close only when Australia Post does). Just choose “pickup” at checkout and we’ll have your order.
Do you offer halal dessert finger food as well as savoury?
We certainly do. Popular choices include chocolate-filled cannoli bites, individual tiramisu cups with halal-certified savoiardi biscuits, lemon meringue bites, and ricotta and orange zest cannoli – all prepared in the halal section with the same strict separation. They’re perfect for finishing a grazing table or Eid dessert spread.
Do you offer tastings before booking a big event?
Yes – any function ordering more than 200 pieces qualifies for a complimentary tasting box delivered free of charge. Just ring the kitchen, tell us the date of your event, and we’ll organise it within 48 hours so you can try before you commit.
